5G Networks, What They Are And Why We Should Care

Several experts have drawn attention to the new 5G networks, which are about to be rolled out across the world. For many researchers, this technology will cause severe electromagnetic pollution with serious health consequences.
5G networks, what they are and why we should care

Much has been said about 5G networks. It is a fifth-generation technology that differs greatly from its predecessors. However, a good number of doctors and health professionals have been warning about its possible risks.

Technological advances are totally irreversible. Once an invention or discovery has been achieved , there is never any turning back. Much less when this advance implies a high capital investment or involves economic power in some way. 5G networks will not be the exception.

However, there has been a great collective debate in this regard. In the opinion of many experts, 5G networks are a highly polluting technology that can cause serious effects for humans and ecosystems as a whole.

What is asked, then, is that at least there is enough information on the subject.

What is 5G technology?

What is 5G technology?

5G technology is the one that allows you to make wireless connections between all types of devices. It achieves a high connection speed  never before achieved, and has a great capacity to support high volumes of traffic.

In other words, 5G networks allow you to work at full speed, with a large number of devices connected simultaneously.

This technology will  also significantly expand the “internet of things”. In other words, handling all types of devices from a distance, just with a cell phone.

So far, so good. The problem is that the 5G networks will require a change in infrastructure, they require massive installation of thousands of small antennas, whose sizes range from the diameter of a coin to the size of a frisbee .

Therefore, they will be everywhere, working all the time and, according to some, generating a constant cloud of growing radiation.

One of the most problematic points is that many of these antennas will have to be placed at ground level. There will likely be a distance of less than 100 meters between them in order to ensure effective interconnection.

Furthermore, according to current regulations, no one will be able to know exactly where they will be located.

The effect of 5G networks on health

There are still no definitive conclusions about the effect of electromagnetic waves on health. However, what really exists are important suspicions in this regard.

In 2011, for example, the World Health Organization classified cell phone microwaves as a “2B” category. That means: “possibly carcinogenic”.

Likewise, there are several independent studies that claim that these waves cause widespread oxidative stress. This predisposes to various health conditions.

Dr. Magda Havas, a professor of environmental science at the Universities of Toronto and Trent, says there is evidence that these waves alter how cells function.

In addition, there is also the Mobi-Kids research, a study carried out with children and adolescents. Apparently, the  electromagnetism could be responsible for the increase in cases of brain tumors in this population.

The results have not yet been published in their entirety.

Reality or fiction?

Another disturbing aspect of this technology is that 5G networks have a high potential to exercise surveillance over people. Its stability, volume and speed allow it to be possible to make a detailed follow-up of all the actions performed by a person.

Information may be collected including how often we open the refrigerator or dry our hair.

Also noteworthy is the fact that two countries in particular have declared 5G networks to be a matter of state: China and the United States. Apparently, there is a strong fight for control of this new technology.

Currently, those who defend the idea that these technologies are harmless have not presented any evidence to support such a claim.

On the other hand, official documents have emerged  warning about possible damage from electromagnetic fields. One of them is the one published by the European Academy of Environmental Medicine in 2016.

Beyond any consideration,  what we all need is to be fully informed about the subject. Those who call for a broad debate on the topic are right. Whether or not it’s true that 5G networks cause harm, we all have a right to know.

In the meantime, care should be taken with children’s access to these technologies. So, here’s a warning, because it’s worth cultivating habits, times and spaces to disconnect.
